my kids surprise me with what they have learned without me actually teaching them. makes you go hmmm.. what else can they learn if i actually teach them?
so yes-- i want them to learn about God..but i fall short in actually teaching them. i don't read stories from the bible...we don't pray together consistently, etc. etc.
but i secretly smile to myself when i know a little bit is sticking:
AJ quizzed me yesterday, "Mom! did you know how many spies Joshua sent to Jericho?'
confident that i knew the answer... i asked him, "do you want me to answer or do you want to tell me the answer?"
AJ replied, "two"
i got confuzzled cuz i was going to tell him 300 (i was thinking about a totally different bible story). this is how i covered up my lameness, "hmmm...we should find that story in the bible. how did you know the answer? did you learn it today?"
AJ: "uhhh...no..i learned it last week."

Jasmine can get a bit obsessive with routine or doing things her way. she knows that we pray the 'Our Father' and i like to say 'thank you God for an awesome day! love you God! thank you for ____ [we fill in the blank with whatever was coolio that day]. i love it when she says, "mom, i want to sing Our Faddah' or 'mom! you didn't say love you God.'
beautiful.
