viva senor santo nino!

Sinulog!  this is the cebuano annual festival to honor santo nino.  HUGE in Cebu. not so high on the radar for other filipinos/filipino-americans.  Grandpa Chef Epic is from the island of Cebu, so i brought the kids to Sinulog in honor of our cebuano heritage.

ok..yes...i have issues with the Catholicism in general ...but i can still appreciate these goings on.

i am so in awe of Cebuanos.
i've been to a lot of pomp and circumstance disorganized filipino pony shows a long time ago...and i didn't feel that here.
you know...filipinos looking at other filipinos..the gossip..the chis mis.  i didn't feel that here.
i get a different vibe from cebuanos for some reason.

this is beginning of the mass - long processional with choir singing.  anyone and everybody who has a santo nino image walked throughout the whole church then set their santo nino's in front of the altar.

check out the shirt.
hey, this is probably the only time he can wear that shirt.

are we done yet?

are we done yet?

hey minnie mouse..are we done yet?

i actually like stuff like this.. maybe i'm searching for me when i go?
i remember trying to find my identity when i was young-- not feeling filipino...not feeling american.

even though i may not be able to teach my kids our culture ...maybe if they go to some of these things, some of it will rub off.

they had a dinner immediately after mass but it was jam packed so we decided to go home.

Viva Senor!
